23 Jan Per-fekt Beauty Skin Perfection Gel
Ever wondered how A-listers achieve a flawless, camera-ready complexion? Well, you can bet that it’s down to the brilliance of Per-fekt Beauty Skin Perfection Gel (£49.50), because the pro make-up artists working behind the scenes on shows including Ugly Betty and Gossip Girl often apply this to the actresses’ skin.

Seriously though, I used this product for the first time this morning and I am rather excited to tell you how good it is. Having previously tried it on my hand I was immediately struck by how silky the formulation is, but as it’s almost invisible I did wonder if it would make a noticeable difference to my skin.
This primer/colour corrector/powder claims to even skintone, minimise pores, control shine, reduce redness, prime and ‘per-fekt.’ It contains Smart Color Technology which adapts to your skintone, alpha lipoic acid, and Vitamins A and E.
Dimethicone (silicone) is third on the list of just a few ingredients, which is what gives it that silky texture, along with the emollient isododecane – but this isn’t a science lesson so I’ll stop with the long words now.
You use it after your moisturiser. The application technique takes a bit of getting used to, as you are meant to pat it onto your face and then smooth with your fingertips.
Patting it on from the off felt a bit strange so I started by gently smoothing it over my skin and then patting. Beware – it blends so easily you’ll wonder if you’ve applied enough but you probably have. The packaging says do not rub!
As you smooth/pat (or pat/smooth), something starts to happen. It’s as if a soft-focus veil as been carefully draped in front of your face. And when you apply foundation on top, the magic really starts to happen – suddenly your skin looks even, flawless, airbrushed… Oh yes, I could get used to this!
I didn’t need to use any concealer or powder and a few hours later my skin still looks good, although there is a bit of shine breakthrough on my cheeks and around my nose.
