Andrew, Errol and Lee talk summer hair

Want to know how best to look after and style your hair when you’re pool or beach-side this summer? Me too, so I enlisted the help of three of my celebrity hairdresser mates, Andrew Barton, Errol Douglas and Lee Stafford.

With a shelf-full of awards and accolades between them, there’s nothing these guys don’t know about hair, so I was keen to find out what their top tips and products were. Now, where’s my passport…

What products should I pack in my suitcase this summer, Andrew?

In summer, hair always gets the biggest battering of the year from sun damage, chlorine and over styling. The Andrew Barton S.O.S collection (from Asda) is perfect for repairing damaged hair; we use shea butter, almond oil and Brazil nut oil which leaves the hair touchable, shiny and easier to manage. The fast-acting three minute treatment comes in a sachet which is great for travelling.

If you had just one hair tip or trick to pass on, what would it be?

Use Andrew Barton SOS Treat Me Deeply Conditioning Mask (£4), as a scrunch cream throughout the day when locks are loose – the treatment will work brilliantly to guard against frizzy beach hair.

What’s your dream holiday destination?

The beauty of northern Ibiza, high up in the hills in a centuries’ old finca with lots of friends around the pool – holiday perfection!

What products should I be taking away with me this summer, Errol?

Moroccanoil Treatment (from £12.85, lookfantastic.com) is amazing, it puts the natural moisture back into the hair while protecting it. There’s also a Moroccanoil Light Treatment (from £12.85), which is great for blondes. Another must-have is Kiehls Silk Groom (£18, kiehls.co.uk) a cult finishing grooming serum which works on both European and Afro hairtypes.

If you had just one hair tip or trick to pass on, what would it be?

Braid or plait hair when wet and unravel when dry – not only are plaits on-trend this season, but when you unplait you’ll be left with amazing, bold waves that last all night long.

What’s your dream holiday destination?

The Maldives or Fiji.

What are the summer must-haves for hair, Lee?

My mini Original Dry Shampoo (£1.99). You can’t go wrong with having a mini version for your bag – you never know who you will bump into!

If you had just one hair tip or trick to pass on, what would it be?

I have two! Bananas in season are just beautiful and they work wonders on hair as well. I once created a smoothie concoction made up of banana, a tablespoon of honey and 200ml of milk. Work the smoothie mixture through your hair and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing. The potassium, vitamins and natural oil ingredients mean your hair will be left stronger with smoother ends, so no need for brittle, breaking hair this summer. Once you’ve got your hair into great condition, use my Sun Kissed Lightening Spray (£7.99) – this clever spray works on all hair shades and you can use to create a number of different looks from natural highlights to all over lightening, or if you’re feeling adventurous, why not spray on the ends of your hair only to create an understated Ombre.

What’s your dream holiday destination?

Ibiza is the place to be. I recently did a charity bike ride for Great Ormond Street Hospital there – you’re guaranteed great weather and great parties!
